Three Poems By David J. Thompson

   Basho  before bed,
fleeting dreams of cranes in flight;
   moonlit plum blossoms.
   Stopping; short of breath,
right lung years gone to cancer;
   walking hard uphill.
   Dimming July day,
first fireflies flickering;
   neighbor’s dog barking.

David J. Thompson is a former prep school teacher and coach. He grew up in Hyde Park, New York, and now lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. His poetry/photography collection Grace Takes Me is available from Vegetarian Alcoholic Press.
