The Jury System
I certainly respect the work
That jurors have to do.
But can you really say that system
Makes good sense to you?
It takes three years to learn the law
Because it’s complicated.
So untrained folks deciding outcomes
Seems to me outdated.
To fathom and apply the law
Is not a simple feat.
Are medical decisions made
By folks plucked off the street?
Mr. Winick began writing poetry several years ago, after concluding a long career as a business attorney. He composes mostly formal poems, although his two favorite poems – Langston Hughes’ Mother to Son and Robert Hayden’s Those Winter Sundays – are both free verse.
Well over 200 of Mr. Winick’s poems have been published in nearly a score of online and print journals in the USA and abroad.
